Branding is one of the most important aspect of business, large or
small, retail or whole sales. An effective branding strategy give you a major
edge in increasing competitive market where your prospect are. It is of important
at this point to know what branding is exactly and how it affect small business
like yours.
Branding is a very vital and dynamic
aspect of your business that spread across multiple view. We shall be focusing
here at the design/graphical aspect of branding as it affect your business.
Who you are should be based to some
extent on who your target customers want and need you to be. The foundation of
every business brand is the business brand colour, Logo, website, packaging and
promotional materials like handbills, catalog, newsletter, complementary card etc.
All of which should be integrated in your logo that will communicate your
brand.
Your
Business Logo
As small as business logo is, is a powerful icon that distinguish you from
the crowd and define your identity. A good choice of logo gives you a consistent image that will enable
people to recognise you always both online or in printed materials. Trade
marking can help ensure that your distinctive brand image is protected against
competitors in your interest. Your brand marketing must connect to and emphasis
your brand values across everything you do. Your brand colour should remain the
same in all your hard/soft copies materials and even on your online
advertisement without alteration or spelling error.

Integrate your brand.
Branding extends to every aspect of your
business, how you answer your calls, what you or your sales people wear, your
e-mail signature, and website. Just everything that has to do with your
business.
- Create a "voice" for your business that reflects your brand. This voice should be applied to all written communication and incorporated in the visual imagery of all materials, online and off.
- Design templates and create brand standards for your marketing materials. Use the same color scheme, logo placement, look and feel throughout. You don't need to be elegant, just be consistent in all your dealings.
Business Bus Branding
- Be consistent. I placed this point last only because it involves all of the above and is the most important tip I can give you. If you can't do this, your attempts at establishing a brand will fail. Stick to your brand colour in all your dealings, do not compromise for any reason and if you must compromise, rebrand publicly ( that is, your prospects must be carried along during and after rebranding)
If you're a luxury goods firm and you decide to
produce a cheaper range, it would be wise to develop a separate brand identity
so you don't scare off your established customers. While you can stretch your
brand to take advantage of new opportunities, your brand will be damaged if you
fail to maintain a consistent focus on your core brand colour and logo.
